Press Release From North Somerset Council

Three Tonne Weight Limit For Yatton Railway Bridge

A THREE tonne structural weight restriction is to be put in place on Yatton Railway Bridge in the interest of public safety. North Somerset Council has been requested to introduce the restriction by bridge owners Railtrack following the completion of a structural assessment which found the bridge needs replacing.

The restriction is set to be put in place on Friday (29 June 2001) subject to signage work being completed on the bridge.

Advance signing will also be installed to warn drivers of alternative routes.

A feasibility study will be carried out to decide the best way of replacing the bridge in the future.

Railtrack has indicated that work on the new bridge will not start for at least another 18 months.
