A420 Lawrence Hill
A view north along the A420 showing long vanished businesses Dickie Parsons Great Western Clothing Works, The Globe Picture Theatre and Joseph Pugsley & Sons Ltd. © David Gardner
The view from Lawrence Hill looking towards Temple Meads along what was once the Midland main line. The mainline would have run to the left of this picture, the famous Barrow Road MPD was in the middle, just beyond the road bridge in the distance, the line in the picture was the Avon Street branch and in the distance at the right of this photo was St Philips station and goods yard.
Standing underneath the bridge that took the Midland Railway under Lawrence Hill. The track on the left goes to a waste transfer station.
Looking north, the area is just a shadow of what it once was. If you look beyond where the track curves to the left you can see a strip of tarmac which is the Bristol and Bath Railway Path and the route of the old Midland line out of Bristol.
