Residents support Charfield station plans

Bristol Post report on how almost three-quarters of residents support proposals to re-open Charfield railway station.

I love the CGI railway tracks in the accompanying photo!

Reminds me of the track which came with my Hornby O gauge trainset circa 1955.

My initial thoughts were why would so many people object. Surely with the cost of personal transport increasing so much (fuel, parking etc.) at least an extra form of public transport gives them another alternative way to reach the big city. It would be interesting to know how many objectors are retired or do not need to commute. Reading further, the usual reasons are put forward regarding traffic congestion but presumably it would be no worse than the brief school run at peak times. However, concerns about the selfish few who clog up residential streets all day rather than pay to use the official car park are probably genuine, although there are ways of mitigating this.

I thin the parking and perhaps the 'build it and they will come' threat of housing development flooding the area once the station is open. It would certainly be an attractive commute into Bristol.
