Grovesend Tunnel is 167 yards long.
Standing with my back towards the tunnel this is the view towards Yate. I actually deliberately left getting this set of photos until winter so there would be a lot less greenery!
The same view from higher up. (roadside). Despite all the greenery it's still possible to see a red buffer stop. This was the headshunt for Tytherington Quarry. The line that went through Grovesend Tunnel was to the left (in this photo) of this headshunt and at a much lower level.
Back at track level and looking at the three arch tunnel mouth. The reason for the three arches is that the road over the tunnel was widened at some stage. The original tunnel mouth would have been further back.
A closer look at the tunnel entrance.
And closer still, and rather excitingly, someone's left the gate open :)
Unfortunately the tunnel is bricked up after just a short way in.
Turning round gives this view back out the tunnel.
Just outside the tunnel mouth, and at road level there are the remains of what looks like an old aquaduct buried under ivy. I guess the waterway was piped in and placed under the new works when the roadway was widened.
