The area in front of the bridge was being used for car parking, and the bridge has palisade fencing put in place to prevent trespass. The large diameter pipe was labelled 'Pumped Sewage' and follows the course of the railway for quite some distance.

History

Bridge No 40 was replaced during the 1930s as part of a program of strengthening works which allowed heavier locomotives to use the line. The concrete central support was added at the same time. (replacing ten cast iron columns).
