5th. Wootten Bassett Junction to Stoke Gifford line closed for relaying prior to introduction of HSTs.

September

St Philips Marsh HST Depot opened at a cost of £1.5 million. It was built on the site of former cattle pens.

October

6th. Wootten Bassett Junction to Stoke Gifford line reopens after track relaying in connection with the introduction of HSTs.
