History
This was once the site of Ashley Hill Junction, where the Midland Railway's extension to Mangotsfield merged with the GWR line. At one time there were four tracks and a signal box at this spot. The route to Mangotsfield closed on 14th June 1965 with the signal box following on 27th February 1966.

The embankment in the previous sets of photos (Mina Road etc) was built from material excavated from this site. The line plunges into Montpelier Tunnel. The view from the opposite end of the tunnel can be seen on the Montpelier station page.
