5996 is working hard after leaving Yate and working south in the 60s. On both these photos you can see that the line was single track. Visible in this photo is a junction signal. This protected the now abandoned third (direct to Swindon) side of the triangle at Westerleigh. © Gerald Peacock

A view from the area between Westerleigh Common and the footpath at Nibley Lane (2). A couple of Voyagers pick up speed on the approach to Yate on a cross-country service. -
The bridge under which the footpath passes. -
Viewed from the other side. As you can see, this side is built from different materials. Originally the up and down lines followed different alignments with trains travelling north using the flyover shown on the Nibley Lane page. The north-bound line was eventually re-aligned to follow the same route as the south-bound one.
