History
The bridges on the Midland main line into Bristol were replaced in the 1920s to allow heavier engines to use the line. However, this bridge was never rebuilt and as such is the original Bristol & Gloucestershire Railway bridge. As such, it is thought to be the only bridge that was built as a horse-drawn tramway and then used as part of a mainline railway to survive anywhere in the world.
